Marine Canvas & Boat Cover Services

Prenger & Sons Canvas Co. provides complete marine canvas and upholstery services for Chesapeake Bay boaters—from everyday cockpit covers to full enclosure packages and winter protection. Every project is patterned, sewn, and installed to handle real waterfront use, not just look good at the dock.

We work on center consoles, cruisers, sailboats, pontoons, and larger yachts throughout Bowleys Quarters, Middle River, Annapolis, Kent Island, and surrounding areas.

Custom Boat Covers & Mooring Covers

A proper cover does more than hide the boat—it keeps water out of the cockpit, protects upholstery and electronics, and slows down UV damage. We build covers that actually fit your hull and rigging instead of fighting generic patterns or elastic hems.

Full Boat & Cockpit Covers

Custom-fitted covers for bowriders, center consoles, and cruisers. Designed around cleats, rails, and antennas so you can still tie up and use the boat without fighting the canvas.

  • Patterned directly on your boat
  • Reinforced wear pads at sharp corners
  • Strategic vents to reduce mildew

Mooring & Slip Covers

Covers that work with your dock lines and piling layout, keeping leaves, rain, and bird mess out while still letting you get on and off the boat safely.

  • Cut to follow your dock and rail layout
  • Access points where you actually board
  • Hardware chosen for salt and sun exposure

Trailerable Covers

For boats that live on the trailer, we build covers that stay tight at highway speeds and stand up to repeated on/off cycles.

  • Reinforced where the cover sees wind load
  • Secure tie-down systems and straps
  • Options for outboard and trolling motor coverage

Enclosures, Eisenglass & Dodgers

A good enclosure lets you run in wind, rain, and cold without losing visibility or access. We build clear-panel systems around your hardtop, arch, or bimini frame so panels zip cleanly, roll up where you need airflow, and seal when you want to shut out weather.

Helm & Bridge Enclosures

Full and partial enclosures for express cruisers, flybridge boats, and center consoles. Designed around sightlines from the helm so supports and seams don't block your view.

  • Clear vinyl or premium glass options
  • Roll-up and removable panel configurations
  • Integration with existing canvas or hard parts

Sailboat Dodgers & Connectors

Protection at the companionway and helm without losing airflow. We size dodgers and connectors around how you move on deck, where lines run, and what needs to stay visible.

  • Handholds and grab rails where appropriate
  • Windows placed for line of sight to sails and telltales
  • Zippers and panels routed away from high-chafe areas

Panel Replacement & Upgrades

If your canvas is structurally sound but the windows are cloudy or brittle, we can replace panels and upgrade hardware while keeping your existing layout intact.

  • Old clear vinyl removed and replaced
  • New zippers and fasteners as needed
  • Refinishing details to clean up the overall look

Bimini Tops, T-Top Canvas & Shade Systems

Shade is one of the biggest comfort upgrades you can make on the water. We build and recover tops that actually follow your layout, rod holders, antennas, and outriggers instead of fighting them.

Bimini Tops & Frames

New tops built on existing frames or complete new setups sized for your cockpit layout and headroom.

  • Sunbrella® and other marine fabrics
  • Frame geometry adjusted for coverage and access
  • Options for zip-in side curtains down the road

T-Top Canvas & Underside Panels

Recovering existing T-tops or building new canvas skins around radar, antennas, and rocket launchers for center consoles.

  • Clean edges and reinforced corners
  • Cutouts for wiring, antennas, and lights
  • Color choices to match hull or interior

Aft Sunshades & Removable Shade

Removable shade systems that extend coverage over the cockpit without permanently closing in the boat.

  • Poles, tracks, or attachment points as needed
  • Storage solutions when shade is not in use
  • Fabric choices for air flow vs. full shade

Marine Upholstery, Cushions & Seating

Foam breaks down, stitching fails, and vinyl eventually cracks. We rebuild seating and cushions so they're comfortable, drain properly, and match the character of your boat.

Cockpit & Lounge Seating

Back-to-back seats, L-shaped lounges, and sunpads rebuilt with marine foam and vinyl designed for constant use.

  • New foam with proper density and drainage
  • Patterns matched to original where possible
  • Stitching layouts that complement the boat

Helm Seats & Leaning Posts

Rebuilding helm seats, bolsters, and leaning posts that see the most wear from running and fishing.

  • Bolster rebuilds with firm, supportive foam
  • Vinyl chosen for grip and durability
  • Logos and accent stitching available

Custom Cushions & Add-Ons

Filler cushions, bow cushions, and add-on pieces that make the boat more usable for your crew.

  • Bow fillers and sunpad extensions
  • Non-standard shapes for storage hatches
  • Snap-in systems for easy removal

Canvas Repairs & Winter Protection

Not every job needs to start from scratch. If your canvas has good bones, we can often repair, restitch, or upgrade hardware to add years of life. For winter, we build reusable covers that protect the boat without the waste of single-use shrink wrap.

Canvas Repairs & Hardware

Repairing tears, restitching seams, and replacing snaps, zippers, and fasteners on existing canvas systems.

  • UV-damaged thread replaced with new stitching
  • Snaps and zippers upgraded where needed
  • Patch work to reinforce high-wear areas

Window & Panel Replacement

Clear vinyl or glass panels replaced when they cloud, yellow, or crack, while keeping the overall enclosure layout.

  • Old panels removed and templates taken
  • New clear material matched to use case
  • Edges finished to blend into existing canvas

Winter Covers & Off-Season Protection

Heavy, reusable covers tailored to your boat for winter storage, sized around stands, blocks, and dock setups.

  • Support structure to prevent water pooling
  • Access zippers for off-season projects
  • Reusable year after year with repair options

Not sure which service you need?

Send a few photos of your current canvas or upholstery and tell us what's bothering you—leaks, poor visibility, worn stitching, or lack of shade. We'll recommend repair vs. replacement and outline options based on how you use the boat.

Good boats deserve good canvas

A lot of problems we see—water on the helm, fogged windows, covers that are impossible to install—come from rushed patterns, generic sizing, or the wrong materials for Bay conditions.

The goal with every job is simple: a clean fit, hardware that keeps working, and a boat that's easier to live with in real use—not just in photos.
